Increasing interest in Bangla domains
Bangladesh got the final allocations of Dot Bangla (.bangla) domain in 2016. Through this, the long-awaited Dot Bangla IDN started.
Domain Name (IDN) is an Internet Domain Name System, which supports the use of web languages without the usual English language. West Bengal and Sierra Leone also applied for 'Bangla' through the Indian government as well as Bangladesh. With the introduction of Dot Bangla Domain, Bangla speaking people have the opportunity to access and use the internet in the mother tongue on the Internet. As a result, the increase in the use of Bangla language on the internet has increased the promotion of Bengali content. Apart from this, the Dot Bangla domain has been playing a special role in the introduction of all the languages of Bangla. Dot Bangla is a second Internet country code top level domain for Bangladesh (ccTLD). This domain is meant for web address in Bangla. BTCL is acting as the technical consultant of the dot-bangla domain. According to BTCL sources, earlier the organization had more interest in Dot Bangla or Dotbd domain. But since personal use of dotbangla and dotbid domains has increased in the year 2018. BTCL sources said that many people are increasingly interested in using dotbangla and dotbd. Everyone is interested in this type of domain. In addition to the new entrepreneurs, individuals, businesses and organizations are showing interest in such domains. Prior to that, only government organizations showed interest. However, due to not renewing the domain, many domain hubs have been canceled. DotBangla domain has many people who have not registered yet. However, due to the increase in the number of DBB registers seen last year. At the end of last year, there was more than 46 thousand registrations of Databdi. Postal, telecommunication and information technology minister Mustafa Jabber said in the first light, "When we started DotBD and Dot Bangla, people say, what will happen to them?" Without the English, nothing will happen in the world. We have worked with the intention of registering a domain for Bengal. The price of Bengali domain has been reduced to 700 taka. We have started to get its results. '
Enabling the Domain Name Easier
Since last year, special initiative has been taken to increase the use of domains in Bangla, International Domain Controller Organization, Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers (ICANN). According to the ICANN website, they are working with plans to name domain in 22 languages from India. Once the matter is approved, the name of the English name will not be purchased. ICANN further said that work on nine Indian scripts is in progress. Among them are Bangla, Devnagari, Gujarati, Gurmukhi, Kannada, Malayalam, Odisha, Tamil and Telugu. But without the Bangla language the script of the remaining eight languages has been created. The scripts were not allowed from Bangladesh due to differences in the use of Indian letters with Bangladesh. Indian Chief of ICANN said that 52 percent of the world's people are under the internet connection. ICANN is currently trying to eliminate digital discrimination. Many of the remaining 48 percent people outside of online can not speak English or can not type. If you found a domain in the local language, it would be useful for many. Consortium consisting of scientists, representatives of different countries and scientists determine the standard for almost all major languages in the world. However, Bangla Unicode charts did not receive proper compensation for Bengali language. This has resulted in complications of the Bengali domain IDN activities. Although the first version of Unicode was released in 1988, Bangladesh was not in Unicode Consortium from 1988 to 2009. As a result, decision on Bangla Unicode was made by neighboring country and experts from other countries. As a result, since the first version, the primary features of Bengali language in Unicode are not properly maintained. Specifically, charts are excluded from D, R, Y, O, and later, with the help of writing inexpensive, it is added as an additional letter, which is incompatible with the basic character of Bengali language. There are some other inconsistencies in the Unicode charts. These issues have been raised in Bangla on behalf of Bangladesh at Unicode Consortium. In 2010, the government of Bangladesh joined the consortium as a voting member to build a 'Digital Bangladesh'. In order to highlight Bangla Unicode's inconsistencies in the consortium, public and public opinion is needed. Mamun or Rashid said, "All the efforts have been taken to ensure that our demands are met by the Unicode Consortium."
